Power Tour Flashback preps for 2001 race

Reliving Some High Points

With Power Tour 2001 rapidly approaching, we couldn’t think of a better way to get in the mood for a cross-country adventure than to relive some of the high points from previous Tours. So we dug into our photo archives and talked to some of Hot Rod’s staffers, both past and present, to get a little perspective on this massive event. What kind of perspective, you ask? Consider this: On the first Power Tour in 1995, only 16 cars started out in Los Angeles to make the long haul to Norwalk, Ohio, and half of them were Hot Rod project cars or cars driven by magazine staff. By comparison, on last year’s tour some 500 people drove 300 vehicles from California to Florida. That’s more than a 1,800 percent increase in just five years–if only our IRAs had that kind of growth! To check out the highlights of a particular Power Tour, click on the sidebar links below.
