How To Build A Cheap, Street, $650 Small-Block
Installing rings is not difficult, especially with 5/16-inch ring pistons. Start with the oil ring expander, making sure the ends don't overlap. Then install the top stainless ring, followed by the lower ring. Most compression rings are marked with top or a dot to indicate that the ring should be installed with this mark up.
