495 HP at 7,400 Small-Block Ford Build

This is the correct way to build a 500hp small-block Ford that just begs to be revved. Trust us.

302Ci Small Block Ford Edelbrock Super
The induction side of things consisted of an Edelbrock Super Victor single-plane and a Holley 750-cfm Street HP carburetor. We also improved power with a 1-inch open spacer, but that may be difficult to package under a stock hood. Also notice that this particular Super Victor is fitted with EFI bungs, since Moore is toying with the idea of eventually converting to EFI. We also used a steel-gear MSD distributor to light the fire.

For this test, we left the lash stock at 0.016 and 0.018 inch for the intake and exhaust. But we considered loosening the exhaust duration to help the peak horsepower based on how well these heads flow. Loosening the lash reduces exhaust duration, while tightening the lash increases camshaft duration.

If you look closely, the 1-inch open spacer added a little peak power, but it also cost a smidgen of torque at 5,200 rpm, which means the average torque and horsepower numbers are very similar. The spacer bumped us up to 496 hp, so we were happy.
