To plumb the '63 Plymouth's brake system with steel hard line, we contacted the folks at Classic Tube. They provided us with a complete OE steel-line kit to replace all the worn original tubing. Everything fit as well as the original and routed into the factory-style clips.

To keep the vintage look on our '63 Belvedere, we retained the front drum brakes.

For safer braking, we removed the original-style single-reservoir master cylinder and replaced it with a new Raybestos tandem master cylinder catalogued for a '70 Belvedere wagon. To that we added all-new hard lines from Classic Tube.

During the first 100 miles of operation, remember to drive the car moderately. This helps properly break in the ring-and-pinion gear. Finally, drain and replace the gear oil with the type of lubricant the gear manufacturer recommends. With a few final checks over all the bolts, our new Strange S-60 is ready for added power.

B-Body Rearend Math 101
The S-60 selected for our '63 B-Body is marketed for '66-'67 B-Bodies and measures 5411/44 inches from housing end to end (without the brake backing plates installed) with 44-inch leaf-spring centers (measured from pin to pin).

We found these mounting points dimensionally the same as the '65-'67 Belvedere 831/44-inch flanged-axle rearend. Unlike the '65 and later 831/44 rearends, the original '62-'64 Plymouth 831/44 rearends use cumbersome splined hub and brake drums.
