EFI Overview: What's Available Now - Tech

Carburetors won't be disappearing any time soon, but unless you're living under a rock, you know about the rising interest in electronic fuel injection (EFI).

It's not that fuel-injected power plants will benefit from a substantial increase in horsepower, but more so that EFI engines are infinitely more tunable, giving you complete control of how your engine will perform. EFI also allows you to tone down those high-horsepower engines with poor driveability characteristics and transform them into docile boulevard-cruisers.

Even more enticing for the average weekend-wrencher is that manufacturers have eliminated the days of hair-pulling installs with an endless array of unspliced wiring, and have instead packaged easy-to-install bolt-on systems. We're not kidding, the aftermarket engine management system manufacturers have been doing their homework and have truly developed user-friendly systems that require minimal tools and a weekend (or so) to install. If you've been wondering which system is right for you, here are many of the important details on several of the more popular systems to help make your purchasing decision.
