If you opt not to have the drums turned, it's a good idea to scuff the braking surface with 400-grit sandpaper, followed by a liberal slathering of brake cleaner, before you reinstall them. The drums on our GS are integral to the hub, so we had to reinstall the outer bearing, washer, castle nut, and cotter pin on each side.
