Mustang Exhaust With a Bassani Twist
Removing the old exhaust system is pretty straightforward. Since ours was previously outfitted with an old aftermarket system, it was only a matter of unbolting it. However, for most late-model vehicles, you simply need to disconnect the air-inlet tube that's connected to the catalytic converter, remove the 02 sensors, and loosen all the flange bolts to remove the entire system. For older street machines still using the factory piping that's welded (minus the header flanges)--whip out the Sawzall and let it rip.
If you're car is laden with emissions equipment, it's easier to mark and remove all the hoses, vacuum tubes, spark-plug wires, and anything else that may get in the way. Trust us, its better to take the time to remove them, rather than accidentally ripping or breaking components trying to force the header in.
Bassani's equal-length headers feature mandrel-bent, 14-gauge carbon-steel primary tubes for durability, along with ball-and-socket connectors that don't require gaskets to seal. It's important to note that while we decided to go with the standard industrial chrome finish, Bassani also offers a high-temperature ceramic coating as an option.
An exclusive feature to the equal-length header is the Extractor Collector, which improves the scavenging effect and performance. Also, when installing the header stud, be sure to place the side with the least amount of threads into the header itself.
Bassani even includes a set of header gaskets to finish the job. But, unlike conventional units, these stainless steel composite gaskets have individual graphite seals for each exhaust port that actually flex for a perfect leak-free fit. And should you ever swap over to a new set of heads, you can reuse the stainless frame and will only need to purchase a new set of seals.
Depending on your application, the X-Pipe may arrive in several pieces. If so, start by loosely arranging them into place before tightening anything.
