As car crafters of the new millennium, we live in an era of automotive ecstasy. Unlike yesteryear, when innovative ideas primarily benefited those who spent countless hours wrenching in their backyards to develop them, we can now build the ultimate powerplant by flipping through the pages of catalogs and selecting from a slew of exotic speed items such as aluminum heads, roller camshafts, nitrous kits, andcentrifugal superchargers. The only drawback is that not everyone has the know-how or the tools to assemble big-horsepower combinations by themselves. Fortunately, there is solution, and it comes by way of crate engines.
Be it a stock factory replacement, weekend bracket motor, or a heart-stopping quarter-mile thumper, you can get it all with one phone call, and nowadays it's even more affordable than ever. While most of the crate engines listed here come complete from the oil pan to the intake, some require the additional purchase of an intake, carburetor, water pump, and a distributor. With so many options readily available, your only problem now will be choosing amongst your favorites.
