Ford 302ci Stroker Packages - Performance Parts

On the street the 347 feels absolutely brutal, and on the track it was spectacular. We spent the afternoon blasting down the quarter-mile at Carlsbad Raceway, located north of San Diego and fairly close to the coast. This meant no bench racing with correction factors to determine what the car may have run with sea-level conditions. Our former 302 could only muster a 13.6 at 102 mph, whereas the torque-laden 347-E would spin the tires through Second gear and netted us numerous bottom-13 and high-12-second passes, with the best run being a 12.85-at-108.5-mph pass! This is fully loaded at 3,400 pounds, with catalytic converters, all of the required smog equipment, Nitto Drag Radials, and freeway-friendly 3.55 gears. Could we extrapolate lower e.t.'s and higher mph? Of course! The 347-E really pulls up top, and unfortunately the 3.55 gearing required us to drop it into Fourth, crossing the traps at only 4,000 rpm. Right off the bat, a set of 4.10s would help tremendously, and depending on how far you wanted to go, you would also benefit from a set 26x8 slicks and pair of pizza-cutters up front. Nonetheless, our goal wasn't to create an all-out drag car but to see what a real-world street pony could do with basic bolt-ons and a few extra cubic-inches.
