The Viper’s 488ci V10 now makes 415 horsepower, mostly due to its new-for-1996 exhaust system that eliminates the ungainly side pipes exiting just under the occupant’s ears. Compression is a mild 9.1:1, and most of the fun is over by about 5500 rpm. Between 1500 and 4000 rpm, the word is torque--heaped on like it’s been dumped from a B-1 bomber.
