1967 Ford Mustang Fastback - FastForward Mustang

Troy Trepanier Builds the eBay Motors Mustang

1961 Ford Mustang Open Hood View

It all started when eBay Motors enlisted Troy Trepanier of Rad Rides by Troy to build its FastForward Fastback '67 Mustang. The Mustang was purchased through an eBay Motors auction and delivered to Troy's shop in Manteno, Illinois, for a Rad Rides makeover. The finished car will be unveiled at the 2003 SEMA show with a state-of-the-art drivetrain and styling cues from the incredible '05 concept Mustang.

The online auction company's goal was simple: Demonstrate that eBay Motors is a prime source for the entire experience of restoring an automobile. The plan called for buying a '67 fastback through an eBay Motors auction, building it with parts purchased from eBay Motors, selling the unused parts through eBay motors, and then hitting the show circuit with one of the most spectacular Mustangs ever built. After displaying the car in various car shows and events, the FastForward Fastback will be offered to the public via (what else?) an eBay Motors auction with the proceeds going to charity.

The trademark of a Rad Rides by Troy car is a wild, yet completely functional, engine and drivetrain featuring a sanitary engine bay. The foundation of power for Troy's latest creation is based on Ford Racing's awesome 351ci, 360hp, GT-40 aluminum-headed crate motor.

Crate motors have become the standard for car builders, street rodders, and racers, and Ford has stepped up to supply a wide range of choices. It seemed a natural for Ford Racing to be an integral part of eBay's build of the FastForward Fastback, and the company's contribution came in the form of a 351W to fill the engine bay. Troy supplemented this package with a Ford Racing EFI manifold base specifically for the taller 351W engine and topped it with a GT-40 upper EFI runner package and a Hi-Flow 86mm Boss throttle body. For some, that might be enough, but Troy likes to have plenty of power on hand, so in addition to the great throttle response afforded by the EFI package, Troy opted to include a Paxton centrifugal supercharger matched with a Vortech aftercooler. Follow along as Troy stuffs this supercharged 351W under the flat hood of the eBay Motors Mustang.

At this mock-up stage, the engine packaging allows all components to operate as they are supposed to. It's critical to make these determinations now, since there can be no afterthoughts once the engine bay is painted. The result is what Troy calls "industrial"--simple, well-executed, top-shelf car crafting!
