The Reading Room
Slam, bam, thank you Mr. Mail Man. I close my mailbox with the latest issue of your magazine in my hand, and walk back to my garage. As I sit at my workbench and open the first page of Car Craft, I look up at my children eagerly waiting for me to read to them.
To my left is a '48 Ford coupe, in primer, with a 396ci big-block, Muncie four-speed, GM 12-bolt, and a 3:55 posi rear. Right in front of me is a '34 Ford, three-window coupe, chopped, with PPG yellow paint, a 468ci big-block, TH400, and a Ford 9-inch. To my right is a '69 Nova with a 327, TH350, GM 12-bolt 3:23 posi, and wearing black.
We look forward to this gathering every month. I read-they listen. Once I finish, I sit back and gather my thoughts. I can now sleep well for another month knowing the Car Craft guys have done another outstanding job.

A Simple Question
I have only one small question. What is a "2+2 fastback" in relation to a '65 Mustang? I've heard the term "2+2" before, but I'm not sure what it is referring to.

For that simple question, we have a simple answer. It was Ford's marketing department that addressed two seats in the front and two seats in the rear-or 2+2. For some people, those two rear seats are merely for decoration since the rear seat legroom in an early Mustang was clearly intended for children or small adults.
Short And Sweet
My 7-year-old son decided to investigate whether he wanted to join our local Cub Scout troop. As such, we built a Pinewood Derby car. While we were designing it, I asked him what color he wanted to paint it. He immediately said, "Black with flames."
I was so proud.

Gratuitous Burnouts Of The Month
I figured maybe these pictures of my '84 Hurst/Olds deserved Burnout of the Month recognition. My '84 Hurst Olds is 1 of 3,500 and part of the Hurst/Olds Club of America. Recently, I replaced the tires (a yearly ritual) and wanted to make sure I got my money's worth with those old tires: off with the old and on with the new. My Hurst/Olds is holstering a 355 Chevy with lots of goodies-Crane cam, Edelbrock carb, valve covers and intake, K&N filter and accessories, and the list goes on. All of this is transferred through a set of Hurst lightning rod shifters to a 3.73 posi.

This is a picture of my brother Earl giving my 16 year-old son a ride in his Pontiac. My son Matt was here visiting me from his home in England. What better way for an uncle and nephew to do a little male bonding than old musclecars and burnouts.

Real Street Responses
What kind of drugs are these three guys (Jeff Smith, Terry McGean, and Henry De Los Santos) on? How can Car Craft, on one hand, have such great tech articles, and on the other, a trio of stupids who don't understand what an apple is and that an orange is not the same!
You see, I like cars, American performance cars ... all of them-Chevy, Mopar, and Fords. But like so many of you guys at Car Craft (and, of course, Hot Rod), this trio of stupids has to find a way of being sure GM gets the prize!
Please, if this magazine is going to compare anything to anything, at least compare apples to apples ... otherwise you do pretty good, you just don't know how to be honest.
