Convertible Camaro
It hasn't even hit the streets yet and already it's teasing us mercilessly by streaking in public. The topless concept will arrive a few months after the production Camaro does in 2009. The convertible is virtually the same car you've already seen on these pages and everywhere else in its hardtop configuration, save for a slightly different windshield surround.
You Have Now Been Officially Challenged
It's been coming for some time now, and DynoMax has decided to lead the charge. If you have a big horsepower chip on your shoulder, DynoMax is offering a chance for you to show the world how much steam you can make on a chassis dyno. The DynoMax Power to the Wheels dyno tour will be running throughout the '07 outdoor car-show season offering a $40,000 purse and other event-level prizes to the winners. Here's how it works.
DynoMax will be touring the country at nine different events this summer starting with Summit Racing Equipment's retail store in McDonough, Georgia, on March 17 and running through September. At each event, competitors will be given the chance to see how much power they can make on a chassis dyno. The two highest-horsepower cars at each event will automatically qualify for the final event at the '07 SEMA show scheduled for the week of October 30-November 2, 2007. The SEMA show winner will go home with a DynoMax check for $25,000, with Second and Third places capturing $10,000 and $5,000, respectively. DynoMax will also offer $100 and $50 prepaid gift cards to First- and Second Place competitors at each of the nine qualifier events.
During discussions with DynoMax, we learned that the chassis dyno to be used for these tests has an 1,800hp capacity, and there was speculation about what it would take to win this shootout. Frankly, we think the winner will easily max out the dyno given that power-adders like a turbocharger, supercharger, or nitrous are legal as long as the engine runs on pump gas. Of course, each competitor must also be running DynoMax exhaust components, such as mufflers. The real question is perhaps not whether that 1,800hp number will be achieved but whether the car that makes it is capable of back-to-back runs at that level. The winning power level is based on peak horsepower from the best of two runs, with no tuning allowed between pulls. There are more rules, but we're not going to go into them here. If you're salivating already, you'd best be logging on to the dynomax.com Web site for all the details.
