FFW Imposes New Turbo RestrictionsIt wasn't long ago that turbos were considered cumbersome and inconsistent, and said to only belong on trucks. Times have changed, and now turbos are kicking butts and taking names in drag racing. The current batch of turbo cars are making too much power-at least Fun Ford Weekend (FFW) thinks so. FFW has recently imposed additional restrictions to the hair-dryers in the Pro 5.0 class by reducing the turbo inlets from a 106mm to a 101mm max. Since a few of the cars have already gone as quick as 6.40s at 218-220 mph in the quarter-mile with the larger turbos, this'll help provide parity with the naturally aspirated Mountain Motor type Pro Stock cars. While we all would like to see those outrageous full-body door-slammers get closer to Pro Modified times, a larger more competitive field with exciting side-by-side action is much more fun.

Back in the September issue, we showed you NMCA BFGoodrich Drag Radial Eliminator competitor Dave Rudisell in mid-flight, perfectly inverted at the top of the track in Montgomery, Alabama, with his '84 Ford Mustang. Fortunately, Rudisell walked away unscathed, and vowed to return as soon as the damage had been repaired. To the surprise of many, Rudisell only missed the Belle Rose, Louisiana, event and went on to take back-to-back wins in the Rising Sun, Maryland, and the Martin, Michigan, races. On top of bragging rights, Rudisell currently claims the points lead. But this is only the middle of the season and a lot can happen between now and the season finale.

With the help of Joseph Buckley, a trust fund has been set up through his law firm. All donations can be made in the form of checks or money orders payable to: Attorney Joseph E. Buckley, trustee and mailed to Attorney Joseph E. Buckley, 100 Main St., Brookeville, PA 15825. Updates on Gary's condition can be found at www.nmca-racing.com.
