Mercury Marauder National Round-UpFun Ford Weekend, with support from the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford Motor Company, will hold its inaugural Mercury Marauder National Round-Up in conjunction with the Fun Ford Weekend's (FFW) 13th Annual World Finals in Ennis, Texas, on September 19-21.
The Round-Up is open to all Mercury Marauders. Classic Marauders from the '60s will have a special "Marauder Corral" parking area set aside inside the racetrack. In addition to the regular FFW festivities, Marauder enthusiasts will have the opportunity to make a "parade lap" in front of the crowd on Sunday and will be welcome to join the appropriate competition classes, including the famous True Street 30-mile cruise, as well as the FFW All-Ford Car Show with a special Marauder Class. Marauder enthusiasts will also get to enjoy a special Saturday evening get-together with guest speaker, Steve Babcock, the Mercury Marauder Project Manager.

Pro Cheap Street SpotlightPro's Car Craft magazine-sponsored Cheap Street features the kind of intense side-by-side drag racing action usually found in the big-dollar classes. Keeping true to the low-buck theme, Cheap Street's stringent rules attract more street-oriented competitors to compete in an arena that more heavily relies on tuning rather than a large bankroll to compete with the elite. During PRO's second stop of the season at Beech Bend Raceway, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Cheap Street cars filled the staging lanes with its largest car count yet, and it became a free-for-all with all the cars well within tenths of one another.
Scott Black of Seneca, South Carolina, took the top qualifying spot with a 9.93 at 135 mph in his beautifully flamed Chevy-powered Fox-body Mustang. Not willing to give up the spotlight, Scott then carried the winning momentum into the finals by edging out newcomer Jimmy McDonagh (St. James, New York) and his '71 Chevelle in a nose-to-nose nail-biter to the finish. Scott took the win with a 9.85 to Jimmy's slightly slower 9.94 on identical 132 mph trap speeds. Next stop, Cordova Dragway Park in Cordova, Illinois.
