Street-Legal Drag Racing - Auto News and Events

Street-Legal Drag Racing

After a required 30-mile cruise (with front and rear police escorts), cars are given a minimum 30-minute cooldown period during which time the hood, trunk, and hatch must remain closed (except to access nitrous bottles or intercoolers). Then each car makes three consecutive passes and the results are averaged for a final score. While top competitors have dipped deep into the 8-second zone, awards are given to the driver and runner-up with the best average in every 1-second increment. That means everyone has a chance to win regardless of how fast or slow his or her car is! For more detailed information and schedule of events, be sure to log onto www.funfordevents.com.

Ladies FirstLinda Massingill from the School of Automotive Machinists in Houston, Texas, took her first victory in the EFI 11 class during the NMCA's season opener at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia. Competing in the family's '98 Z28 daily driver powered by a naturally aspirated 375ci LS1, Linda qualified Third with an 11.08 at 123 mph and eventually took the win in the finals when John Lovett broke out. Although it's still early in the season, Linda is currently the points leader and may give last year's champion Todd Merkel a run for his money.
