The brackets themselves are prone to wear in this area (arrow) where the pads contact the bracket. Because the bracket holds the pads in place within the caliper, if the pad abutment area is gouged or worn out, the brackets need to be replaced. Newer designs from lS1 F-cars and Corvettes use steel shims in this area. Be sure to replace the shims when overhauling the system.
