Adding stroke will automatically increase compression even if no other changes are made to the engine. This is because the piston now travels farther from bottom to top. As an example, a 350ci small-block with a 10.0:1 static compression ratio will jump 16 percent to 10.64:1 merely by adding 0.270 inch of stroke from 3.48 to 3.75.
