The Big Wipe

116 0401 Wipe 08 Z
The wiring harness for the new motor comes with Weather-Pack terminals but is delivered without the connector for the motor in place. This is so the wires can be passed through a small hole in the firewall...
116 0401 Wipe 09 Z
...The kit's directions instruct to drill a 7/16-inch hole in the firewall near the fuse panel, but we found that one of the factory wiring holes was perfect for the task, requiring no drilling. We fed the wires through and inserted a new grommet to protect the wires while sealing the hole.

The wires must be inserted into the connector in specific locations outlined in a diagram in the directions. Align the wire terminal with the receptacle and push the wire into the connector until it clicks into place...
116 0401 Wipe 11 S
...The unused receptacles are already plugged by DSE. Once the wires are in place, snap the locking cover over the back of the connector.
116 0401 Wipe 12 Z
After removing the old wiper switch from the dash, a small hole must be drilled to locate the new switch's locking tab. The directions include a template for marking the location of the hole. After marking the location, remove the template and drill a 5/32-inch hole. The new switch can then be installed.

The only wiring required for installation of the kit involves the ground and power leads. DSE's wiper-motor kit also includes an additional aluminum knob for the headlight switch, so that the two will match. The original headlight switch knob is attached to a shaft, which can be pulled from the headlight switch when the release button on the side of the switch is depressed. We didn't think we could get our original knob off without destroying it, so we obtained another switch shaft (these are the same for many GM cars) and used it with the DSE knob.
