Real Street Eliminator has been a Car Craft staple performance-car evaluation for nearly 30 years. Our most recent contest was at the Car Craft Summer Nationals in St Paul, Minnesota. As most CC readers know, we’ve split the contest into three classes: muscle cars, late-model cars (’82 and newer), and a separate class for Corvettes and Vipers. This year, Joel Route and his ’07 supercharged Mustang did something that no one has done before: steal the Late Model Real Street trophy without winning a single one of the three events. This has as much to do with how the competition fares, but that’s the case with any shootout or automotive contest. Joel took the RSE Late Model class with a Third Place finish on the chassis dyno and Second Place finishes in both the Launch Box and the autocross. This is a perfect example of how the points system is set up to emphasize overall performance. So if you are encouraged by Joel’s win, we’ve accomplished our job. Enter Real Street next year and show us what you can do.
