Ohio George Montgomery
This photo is part of a series of Car Craft All-Star Drag Racing Team portraits from 1967. Montgomery is standing in front of the blown SOHC Cammer from his then-new AA/GS Mustang that bent the Gasser rules until the ends touched. The stunning 6:71 GMC supercharger used a Sneaky Pete Robinson magnesium case and featured a blue-anodized aluminum hoodscoop, bling being a signature move for Montgomery. A Renaissance man, Montgomery also fabricated the intake manifold and blower drive in addition to driving and wrenching on the car. The 2,150-pound car ran 8.90 at 160 mph at the NHRA Springnationals in 1967, killing the record by four tenths.
