1962 Pro Street Ford Falcon - Readers' Pages

Readers Rides 1962 Pro Street Ford Falcon
Readers Rides 1962 Pro Street Ford Falcon
Back-halved and tubbed, thank you.

Omaha Orange
Who: Chuck Luton
What: '62 Pro Street Ford Falcon
Where: Mesa, AZ
Why: Chuck labored for seven years to get this Falcon tubbed and plumbed with a stroked 351 Windsor. Those are 18.5-inch Hoosiers in the rear.

Readers Rides 1962 Chevy Nova
Two Pro Street cars in one issue? So what?

Pro Sweet
Who: Dave Vollmer
What: '62 Chevrolet Nova
Where: Grand Haven, MI
Why: We love Pro Street no-hood street machines. This dude raced Camaros and bikes until he decided to settle down with a docile street car. The 4.88s should be nice on the freeway.

Readers Rides 1969 Chevy Camaro
Check out the front wheel buried in the mud.

Gonna Fix 'Er Up Soon
Who: David Curtin
What: Not for sale: Near-mint '69 Chevrolet Camaro, some rust.
Where: David doesn't actually own this dead Camaro; he just realized what it was after someone cut the lawn.
Why: In 2030, someone will consider restoring this car.

Readers Rides 1980 Chevy Camaro Z28
We like the Medium Green Z28, too. Anyone have one for sale?

Don't Wreck It
Who: Jojo (dad) and Wyatt (son) Azarcon
What: '80 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
Where: Broomfield, CO
Why: Jojo is reliving his high school memories by passing on his high school car to his son. Goodies include an Edelbrock carb and intake, a rebuilt 350, a Comp cam, a 3:43 posi, a B&M shifter, and a rebuilt tranny with a street shift kit. The rest of the car is original, including the paint.

Readers Rides 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass
Bill says his best e.t. is 11.42 at 116 mph.

Olds Street/Strip Blaster
Who: Bill Sullivan
What: '72 Oldsmobile Cutlass
Where: Oak Grove, MN
Why: Bill has owned this Cutlass since 1986. The car is from Arizona and still wears most of its factory-applied lacquer paint. Under the Outside Air Induction hood is a 9.3:1 compression, Edelbrock-headed 455 making 498 hp and 536 lb-ft. Backing that is a TH400 trans with a manual valvebody and a 10-inch converter. A few years ago, he broke an axle in the factory 12-bolt, so he bought a Moser 12-bolt with 33-spline axles and 4.10 gears to fix it permanently.

Letters
I Like The Girls

Keep in mind that it is always easier to write a negative letter than a positive one. Don't let the vocal, whiny minority lead you to believe that the Nov. '09 issue was anything short of awesome. Bikinis with Mopars, Pro Street station wagons and Van Nuys Boulevard . . . life is good.
-Brandon Flannery, local

Thanks, Brandon, so far it's been 90 percent positive.

My Wife Hates The Girls
The return of the swimsuit issue was great. Cars and pretty girls go together like baseball and apple pie. I just hope you guys don't run for the tall grass once the first wave of angry housewife letters rolls in.
-Jim Rizzi, New Jersey

1987, Stupid!
Please let Mr. Glad know that the louvered taillights on Mustang GTs didn't start until 1987. It appears his memory is fading just like mine. Also if Vanilla Ice makes a comeback now, I will be blaming him and will have to unsubscribe to Car Craft (not really, but it sounded good). Thanks for the hard work on putting together a great magazine every month.
-Al Haas, Harker Heights, TX

Yeah, Glad bit it on the taillight thing. You should have read the email he got from Mark Houlahan at Modified Mustangs.

Stop! Or Don't, Whatever
I was not impressed. LS motor? Cool! Add a blower. Very cool! Leave the single-cylinder, manual brakes? Total fail!
-Sam Sahli, Cranberry, PA

We are getting a lot of grief about the stock single-pot master cylinder on the '64 El Camino ("Install a Vortech VTS," Jan. '10). Is it because the car makes 600 hp? Could that be it? It stops eventually.

Brain Misfire!

In the last few issues, we said the '86 Mustang GT had louvered taillights. Then we wrote that the Valiant was built by Dodge instead of Plymouth and that the Nova in the This Guy's Garage was both a '65 and a '66. We blew it. We should have taken the editorial positions at Cat Fancy when we had the chance.

"The only thing Chevy is the color." Chuck Luton

"We had the red '10 SS six-speed Camaro doing the burnout in the Nov. '09 issue. After the tranny shelled and the rear axles gave way, we opted for an automatic. We couldn't wait to clone a '69 pace car and get a shot of the Pirellis screaming for dear life so we could try to get into Car Craft again.

"I finally talked my wife, Maraina, into taking some pics of me doing a burnout in my TA. It's an '00 WS6 that I have been driving for about two years. The engine is an LS1 with a six-speed that has no problem melting the 285s. I bought this car to have fun, and I've been enjoying every minute of it." -Josh Gagner, Eugene, OR

Light 'Em Up
If you haven't sent in a photo for Burnout!!, your car probably doesn't run. Get it going and send the photos to our new address, 831 S. Douglas St., El Segundo, CA 90245, or email it to CarCraft@carcraft.com with a single photo size of at least 1 MB. Files smaller than 1 MB annoy and disturb the photo editor.
