Makeup: Liza Macawili The idea of the swimsuit issue is nothing new; Sports Illustrated has been doing it for decades. The idea of a car or a part with a girl on it is even older. Hot Rod magazine had Parts With Appeal in the '50s and there is probably a lead plate in your attic somewhere featuring grandma draped over a '29 Duesenberg. But that's a different magazine. It wasn't until Pat Ganahl took a big swing at being Editor of Hot Rod that the idea of girls and cars in the same photo really took off in the mainstream automotive media. According to Pat, he had hatched the idea as a spoof of S.I. and pushed it onto the newsstand. The issue moved like free money, and even though Pat soon gave up the keys to Hot Rod, Petersen Publishing continued to produce the swimsuit issue for years to come. Eventually, the idea trickled down to Car Craft in the '90s, where we believe it found its rightful place. Car Craft is the garage magazine about wrenchin' guys, so a girl leaning over the fender trying to distract you is a natural fit. In honor of Pat and the many photos and girls that followed, we offer the return of the Car Craft swimsuit issue. Enjoy! EXCLUSIVE WALLPAPERS!
