428CI Alcohol-Injected Ford
Jim Coulter, Memphis, TNJim Coulter's '64 Galaxie 500 is really just a testbed for his '65 Galaxie race car. Jim created a mechanical fuel-injection system and bolted it to his 428-inch test engine to get the bugs out before swapping the parts onto his nasty 427 side-oiler and getting serious about racing.
"I'd like to make about 550 horsepower," Jim says. Knowing the Galaxie is a heavy car, he'd be happy to see quarter-mile times somewhere around 11.4 seconds. Jim, who just retired after working 28 years for GE as a maintenance mechanic, says he's always been interested in fuel systems and has recently developed an interest in working on FE Fords. "They're starting to become popular, so more parts are available for them now," he says.
