It's hard to believe it was a tad over 20 years ago when Car Craft launched its first Americruise, a year-long cross-country drive in this so-delicious '70 Camaro. This shot was from the Feb. '86 issue, when Kevin Boales stopped at the Bonneville Salt Flats, probably to test the sweet aero of that Herb Adams VSE whale tail. Up front was an equally stylish L88 hoodscoop, plus McGean's favorite mod: RS split bumpers on a non-RS second-gen. The car was a real SS350, though, and the mag bought the project for $1,000. Under the hood? Proving that history repeats itself, it's a 350 with a mini-blower. Anyone read this month's cover story?
Oh, and the Americruise name? It was hijacked by Rod & Custom magazine in 1992 for a street-rod show that's being revived in 2006.
