Spraying paint isn’t an easy task, and it’s only as good as its foundation. That’s why Daryl and his father Wayne spent many hours making sure the body was ready to shoot before sending it out to Beach Fender Mender in Ft. Myers. The final result speaks for itself, because this is one ’71 Nova that’s hard to miss when cruising the boulevard.

Having a clean engine bay is nice, but it’s the details we like. Notice that all the extraneous holes from the fenderwells and firewall have been welded, smoothed, and painted. The 454 was bored 0.030-over and is now a 461ci powerhouse featuring forged TRW 9.5:1 pistons, moly rings, Clevite 77 bearings, and all ARP fasteners. Topping off the motor is a set of stock Chevy “049”-casting heads outfitted with 2.12/1.65 valves. Fumes expel by way of Hooker Super Comp headers with 21/8-inch primaries and 31/2-inch collectors. For bodacious harmonies, a set of two-chamber Flowmaster mufflers rest between 3-inch piping.

Daryl Hameetman grew up like any other kid in Ft. Myers, Florida. He played in the dirt, ran around outside, and even cleaned up the house when asked. But his average child- hood stopped when Daryl attended his first drag race at the tender age of 12. Two years later, the Nova chronicles began. What started as a way for a father and son to spend quality time together quickly turned into more than just a joint venture.

We first met up with Daryl during last year’s NMCA World Finals in Commerce, Georgia. We also found out that this ’71 Nova has earned its fair share of prizes including Best of Show. But the story doesn’t end here. Daryl is further enhancing his passion for wrenching at the School of Automotive Machinists in Houston, Texas, which caters to those who want a career in the high-performance and racing industries. It all sounds promising, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store.
