This '13 Drag Pak Challenger belongs to Al Carpinello, built by Ray Barton, and driven by his son, David. This photo is from the NHRA Carolina National Factory Showdown in Charlotte where the car went 8.90 on an 8.92 dial-in in the FS/AC class. According to our sources, this is the first naturally aspirated V8 Stock Eliminator car to run in the 8s.
The trick to the additional speed is the new Drag Pak 426 Gen III Race Hemi that features the new aluminum block, performance cylinder heads, a redesigned intake manifold with a larger throttle body, and we are guessing, more cam and compression. The NHRA approved the new Hemi for The Showdown or as a class engine for Stock Eliminator racing. The 426 can be used as a legal upgrade for any V8 Drag Pak car starting in 2009. Mopar built 151 V8 Drag Pak cars from 2009 to 2013 and 50 V10 cars in 2011 only.
