Rear View - February 2014

Early GoPro

By , Photography by Car Craft Archives

If you think mounting a GoPro on your rollbar is new, check out this photo from the Hot Rod Magazine Championship Drag Race in early 1965. The camera is a Nikon SLR mounted with a motor drive to take multiple exposures during the burnout or maybe even the entire run if it survived. This kind of experimental rig led to the iconic Snake dragster burnout photos that appeared everywhere in the 1970s. The Fuel Dragster has Jess Sturgeon lettered on the cowl. The race was held in Riverside, California.
