We like to think that car crafting extends well beyond street cars, Pro Street, and drag racing. Car crafting is all encompassing—even when it comes to circle-track cars and especially the very cool world of vintage stock-car racing. There's a fine line between an old circle-track car that's past its prime and a nostalgic left-turner that evokes all kinds of fun history. Kenny Hutchens has been involved in circle-track racing for four decades, and when he stopped racing in 2005, he decided to get into vintage stock car racing. Over the years, he's converted some cars and built outright "tribute" cars like the Smokey Yunick '66 Chevelle. The vintage stock car thing has really become popular, and now Kenny is as busy as ever. He calls the shop the Lost Speedway Bar and Raceshop, and they've had some "hellacious parties there on some weekends." So car crafting is where you find it, even in the deer capital of Wisconsin.

A. The black primer '55 belongs to Kenny's brother, John. It was his high school car in 1975 and runs a 350ci small-block Chevy and a Muncie four-speed. John calls it "The Beast." Kenny says it breaks all the time but they still love it.

B. The '84 Monte Carlo SS is pure stock and is only driven in the summertime after the Wisconsin snows have long since disappeared.

D. The '55 Chevy stock car in the corner is one of Kenny's on-going dirt and asphalt projects he started in 2012.

E. The '75 Laguna Gatorade car is a replica of Darrell Waltrip's '75 NASCAR ride. The chassis is a NASCAR late-model "left-over" when he stopped racing weekly shows after the '05 season. The car is now raced occasionally in the IMCA Oldtimer's Vintage Racing group.

F. This '66 Chevelle is a Smokey Yunick tribute car that was the first car to qualify at more than 180 mph. It sat on the pole and set a new track record at the '67 Daytona 500. Kenny built the Chevelle in 2008 and won its first race in the Vintage Class at the Milwaukee Mile that year.

G. This is an '88 Monte Carlo Aero Coupe, originally built in 1993 for the Mid-American Stock Car series. When Kenny quit racing the series in 2001, the car soon became outdated. He turned it into an occasional Sportsman Class car and recently has re-created Harry Gant's Skoal Bandit No. 33 car for the IMCA Vintage series. The car has a 350 small-block Chevy with Vortec heads and a T-10 four-speed.

H. This four-door '57 Olds Ninety-Eight is almost identical to the new one Kenny's parents purchased in 1957. It has a 350 Olds engine out of a '76 Olds Cutlass and sports factory power windows and power seats.

I. The dusty '57 Chevy is a two-door Bel Air that was Kenny's high school car he bought in original condition in 1973 for $500. He drove it for 10 years, then it was parked for repairs and hasn't been touched since. He plans to restore the '57 "before my time runs out!"
