It’s fun to consider that the whole world has an affinity for American muscle cars; it’s arguably more enjoyable to witness them loving our cars in another country. Take, for instance, the above video we stumbled upon of the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 going head-to-head in Russia. This footage displays the pony car going to battle in the standing mile – pitted against exotic cars such as the Porsche Panamera Turbo S, Nissan GT-R MK.2, and Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 SL – and also going head-to-head with a Chevrolet Corvette. How did the Mustang fare? Reasonably well!
Ford Mustang GT500 vs. Corvette Z06
First up is the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Though some might assume the nimble, low riding, Vette would out-perform the GT500, that assumption is incorrect. The 750 hp Vette is equipped with a supercharger that propels it to 32.605 seconds at 148.93 mph. Meanwhile, the stock 667 hp ‘Stang runs a 30.867 mph at 166.18 mph. What’s more, the action isn’t over.
Ford Mustang GT500 vs. Nissan GT-R
Following the Corvette, a Nissan GT-R MK.2 took to the pavement to race the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. The all-wheel drive GT-R, capable of producing 660 hp, passed through the traps at 29.728 seconds at 179.38 mph; the Mustang’s 30.321 seconds at 165.81 mph was just 0.593 seconds apart shy of tying… unbelievable! At nearly twice the price of the GT500, the Nissan is less than a second quicker in the standing mile, and 7 hp less than the pony car.
Ford Mustang GT500 vs. Porsche Panamera Turbo S vs. Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 SL
The video wraps-up with two exotics: a 4-door, $175,000 Porsche Panamera Turbo S, and an even more expensive $200,000+ Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 SL. The Porsche cranks out 700 hp, and flew through the traps at an impressive 170.10 mph. The Turbo S gained 0.896 seconds on the Mustang, giving it the win.
Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 vs. Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 SL
The final race in the video was between the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 SL and the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. The Lambo ran an insane 5.8 seconds quicker than the American pony car, hitting a top speed of 222.57 mph. With 2005 hp, who wouldn’t expect the GT500 to get stomped?
All-in-all, it’s incredible how much $55,000 will get you in a Mustang. A 5.8L supercharged engine capable of 600+ hp and a ¼ mile time of 11.6 seconds at 125.7 mph – straight from the dealership. What Muscle car enthusiasts, American or not, wouldn’t want this beast?
