Saleen Automotive, Inc. expands lineup with Limited Edition Heritage Collection

A Mustang, Camaro, and Barracuda will pay tribute to well-known racers in Trans-American history

Saleen Automotive , Inc., a 30-year American niche manufacturer of performance vehicles, parts, and lifestyle apparel, has expanded its lineup with a Limited Edition Heritage Collection. These vehicles will pay tribute to five well-known racers in Trans-American history.

“As a specialty manufacturer and [racecar] driver myself, it is the perfect alignment of passions that allowed us to complete an entire collection of vehicles, ” says Steve Saleen, President & CEO of Saleen. “We may actually be the only company that can offer this type of Automotive Collection all under one brand name.”

To go along with the existing Parnelli Jones and Dan Gurney Edition Mustangs, Saleen will offer three all-new, Limited Edition Heritage Collection vehicles. The collection will consist of a Mustang, Camaro, and Barracuda. Each Saleen Heritage vehicle will represent the driver and vehicle driven in the Mission Bell race that took place at Riverside International Raceway on October 4, 1970. The historic race was significant because it was the final race of a tremendously competitive season for the SCCA Trans-American Championship.

The Heritage Collection will add its third piece with the release of the George Follmer Edition Mustang. Unveiled August 17, 2013 at the Laguna Seca Raceway, this pony car is styled from the No. 16 ‘69 Boss 302 car raced in 1970. The Mustang will have a naturally aspirated 302 ci four-valve engine that churns an estimated 470 hp. A six-speed manual transmission will be harnessing the power, while a track-tuned suspension adds for better handling at the track.

Expected to be unveiled in the winter of 2013, the fourth installment of the Heritage Collection will be the Mark Donohue Edition Camaro. Production for the fifth-gen F-body Saleen Chevy will begin in early 2014. A Swede Savage Edition Barracuda will be the final piece of the five-car Heritage Collection. Production for this vehicle is expected to begin in the spring of 2014, with an unveiling scheduled for early 2014.

All three cars are estimated to be in the mid $70,000’s and will be part of a Limited Edition run of vehicles. Paint color schemes are offered only in the same color identity as the original cars from the ‘70s. Special Edition graphics will be on each car, setting each vehicle apart from the rest of the Heritage Collection vehicles. Each interior will include modern comforts, while retaining the feel of a track-ready sports car.

“All of our vehicles in the Saleen Heritage Collection were designed and engineered to retain the authentic lineage of the original factory-backed racecars,” added Saleen. “In driving and seeing the new Saleen versions of each car I am quickly taken back to the memories I personally have of these cars at Riverside International Raceway from the ‘60’s and ‘70s.”
