Stefan Thorarensen, founder of MustangImdb.com, reports that 100 contributors on his site have developed a list of movie and television titles that contain the Ford Mustang. Starting in 2009 with 300 titles, that list has grown with crowd-sourcing to an estimated 3,000!
Mustang is celebrating its 50th anniversary with another big blockbuster splash. DreamWorks Studios’ upcoming movie, “Need for Speed,” will feature a modified Pony car as the film’s hero car. The movie is expected in theaters on March 14, 2014.
The Mustang will feature a more aggressive look with wider fenders, a lowered suspension Fog lamps with high-tech LED halo lamps, a custom paint job with blue stripes that glow when struck by light in the dark and custom 22-inch wheels. Details about the engine are vague, Ford has claimed the car will crank-out 900 hp, but according to Jalopnik.com, that is unlikely.
Here is what HOTROD.com had to say: “While we suspect the power plant may be a 5.8L Shelby GT500, the Need for Speed role is claiming the engine is making 900 hp. We’re not confirming or denying this claim, however, Ford Racing does not currently offer a turnkey engine with that much power. It’s Hollywood, go figure.” You can read the full-story HERE.
Featured in numerous 007 movies, James Bond made the Ford Mustang popular in the late ‘60s. However, the muscle car’s most well-known role came in 1968 when Steve McQueen drove it during one of the best car chases ever filmed, the nine-minute climax of “Bullitt.”
“We’re thrilled to have Ford play such an important part in a film adapted from one of the most popular video games of all time,” said Keith Koeppen, Ford marketing communications manager. “Mustang has an incredible history appearing in movies and ‘Need for Speed’ will be a great way to continue its hero car legacy.”
