Some readers may recognize Jeff Schwartz's name--he won our Real Street Eliminator last fall with his mondo Cadillac. Jeff showed up at the Nats with his latest project, an Ultima GTR. The car is a British design that the end user finishes with the drivetrain of his choice. Jeff opted for a Corvette Z06 LS6 engine coupled to a turbo Porsche transaxle. The car drew a crowd the whole time it was parked, and Jeff took home the Best Engineered award.

Cruising is sort of an unofficial activity at the event. Some cruisers are just on their way in, some are trolling for better parking, and some are just looking around while idling through the lanes. Although it adds to the congestion, most show goers don't seem to mind the constant parade of iron. A nimble two-seater with a drop-top is ideal for fairgrounds patrol.

Although this is a Car Craft show, other sects of the automotive hobby were out in force. Probably the most evident were the low-rider and sport-truck guys. These are both distinctly separate groups...

...but both feature "active" suspensions that get lots of attention when demonstrated, regardless of whether you're into that sort of thing or not. The low-riders still rely on traditional hydraulic systems, while the truck guys favor airbags fed with big tanks and lines for instant response.
