If you’re old enough to remember the original bumble-bee Car Craft T-shirts and Camaro chin spoilers from the Mar. ’78 premier of the Cruisin USA series, you might know someone who was escorted out of Indy or Ohio in handcuffs, and it was probably our fault. We incited the riots by showing up at various cruises around the country bringing as many readers as possible. It was just like Tahrir Square, but without the camels. Three decades later, muscle cars are again ruling the streets, with record numbers of participants at events like our Car Craft Summer Nationals, and we’ve witnessed the resurgence of grid-clogging cruise nights at sacred venues like Van Nuys Boulevard in Southern California. Now is the time to bring the beloved Cruisin USA series back to your hometown, and we’ll use technology to make it a whole lot better. What are we looking for? Any cruise night will work, but we also want off-brand stuff like ice-drag racing, garage nights at shops where gearheads hang out, big swap meets, and even local car shows as long as you don’t need a ticket to get in. We’ll do anything that involves muscle cars and street machines. Here’s how it works. Fill out the sheet on the following page or go to CarCraft.com and download the PDF and send it in. You can also visit the Cruisin USA forum where you can enter the information about your event so everyone can see it. We will pick one every three months and send Car Craft guys to cover it. The person who suggest a location gets credit in the magazine, and the event gets coverage. We will also use all of our broadcast resources to get as many guys out there as possible to make it huge. Since this issue will be out in May, we have already picked our first venue. The cover shot is Eldy Johnson in his ’69 Mustang and Marv Reiser in his ’63 Plymouth Savoy Cruisin’ Grand in Escondido, California. The first cruise of the season is April 1, 2011, and we are going to be there. If you missed it, Cruisin’ Grand runs through the end of September. It’s not just cruising; there are several special events like AFX, Nitro, and even Fire Truck Night. For more information, visit CruisinGrandEscondido.com. So send in your entries or post them on CarCraft.com and follow us on Facebook.com/CarCraftMag as we take Car Craft back to the streets and bring you the best grass-roots street machining in the nation.
