Most Violent
Rob LaCroix stunned the crowd at Byron with the violence of his backflip. It was the culmination of seven years of entering wheelstand contests with his nitrous-injected, small-block, Chevy-powered '76 Pontiac Acadian. Rob had been telling his friends for years that he wanted to backflip his Acadian at Byron. After Greg Leideker backflipped his Chevette last year, Rob decided he would try to get a full rotation and land it on the wheels. We thought he was joking--till we saw the run. We've never seen a car leave the line so violently. As the emergency crew at Byron carefully extracted Rob from his car, we saw him start to come around as they were loading him into the ambulance. It took about 15 minutes for Rob to convince the EMTs he was OK. For the second year in a row, Rob won the Highest and Most Violent Wheelie.
