Did we mention GM brought the Cadillac XLR-V to the show and let people ride around in it? Publisher John Gallagher demanded we run this photo. Those are not his wives.

Here is a better photo. We are showing this only because watch-ing the hardtop fold away is better than six straight hours of Deadliest Catch.

GM Performance Division also brought its historic engine display. All of the engines were reproduced to the exact factory specifications, so if you were wondering about the accuracy of the fuel line bends on your 283, this was the place to be. This, of course, is the killer 302 that powered the '67 to '69 Camaro Z/28. We touched it.

The '49 303- cid Rocket was the first modern ohv V-8. It was also one of the first high-compression engines. Gasoline quality prevented it from reach-ing the 12.0:1 compression goal, but it did reach 10.0:1 by 1966.

Don't like Chevy small-blocks? The GM display also had killer BOP options. Sniff this '70 455 Stage I powerplant and know that it had the highest torque at the lowest rpm of any production GM engine. We're talking 510 lb-ft at 2,800.

The '53 Buick 322-inch Fireball V-8 was introduced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Buick. The vertical valve layout and valve cover fasteners earned it the name Nail Head.

If you don't like small-blocks or Buick engines, the GM display had all the famous big-blocks, including the mystery engine and the first Turbo Jet 396.

Check this out. It is Pontiac's first OHV V-8 called the Strato Streak. It is only 287 cid and makes 200 hp at 4,800 rpm. We're thinking the 8.0:1 compression ratio needs to be pumped up a little and the engine needs to be dropped into a '63 Tempest.

The '49 Cadillac 331-inch V-8 was closely tied with the Olds by being the first Cad OHV engine. This engine introduced the slipper piston that had its sides cut away to fit between the crankshaft counterweights and the bottom of its stroke, shortening the connecting rod.

In addition to the vintage Rocket, there was this W-30 455 from the '70 Cutlass. It just misses the Buick standard by making 500 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm.

Did we mention the GM guys were there? If you hung out by the main stage, Craig Shantz would likely throw you a prize. Look for the orange shirts next year to find a GM guy (or girl) and say hi.

We're seeing more stock car and vintage race car replicas. Larry Nord built this '65 Comet 202 as an A/FX replica complete with a 'glass front end and a 427-inch FE mill.

We walked by this '01 Mustang a couple of times before realizing it had a turbocharged 5.4 with Lincoln Navigator heads making a stupid 1,000 hp on race gas with 14 pounds of boost. Those blacked-out wheels are 18x9 Cobras with 275/35ZR18 BFG tires. The front bumper is from a '99 Cobra.

We think the burnout competitors are getting dialed in, so there are fewer blown motors and shredded fenders. Drew Tillsen took the win on Saturday in his '77 Olds Cutlass Supreme. To enter, you just need to sign up. To win, you need to impress the crowd with a roaring engine and lots of billowing smoke.
