You should have seen the looks we got. Imagine a mob of CC readers being let into our own corral at a Goodguys' show. It was as if the Hell's Angels held a chapter meeting at the Beverly Hilton. Some might have called it a breath of fresh air. Others may have looked at our primer and mismatched body panels and wondered, "Who the hell let them in?" We changed things up a bit for Anti-Tour '08. Last year's trip to Las Vegas taxed some people's limits. Long highway miles, desert climates, and high revs over mountain passes didn't exactly jibe with a few cooling systems or drivers' eardrums. So this year we kept it simple. We shortened the duration of the trip in time and in distance, planning only two days of activities within 150 miles of Los Angeles. Saturday morning's meeting at our shop in Gardena provided an opportunity for people to laugh at our cars while admiring each others'. Plus, we gave out free T-shirts. No doubt the ones saying Anti-Tour '07 with the date crossed out will be collectors' items one day. We hit the road at about 9 a.m., destined for the Goodguys' show at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California, followed by a trip to OPG in Seal Beach. Sunday's drive took us far off the beaten path to Barona Drag Strip in Ramona, California, for some eighth-mile drag racing. As usual, people were welcome to spend as much or as little time as they wanted traveling with us. Check out the action. People started showing up around 6:30 a.m. By 8:00, the parking lot was jammed. Air Ride Technologies brought several of its cars.
