The Twilight Cruise
Hang out with friends, take in the NHRA Museum, and check out the machines.
Where else can you hit a late-afternoon cruise-in, see some fairly amazing cars, meet icons from drag racing, and generally have a good time with cars all in the early weeks of December without freezing to death? That's one of the beauties of Southern California. The NHRA Museum is located just south of the Pomona fairgrounds that hosts the NHRA Winternationals and World Finals every year. Between April and December, the museum hosts a Twilight Cruise once a month for roughly 300 cars and car crafters who jam the parking lot to check out the scene and bench race.
We took in the last Twilight Cruise of the '05 season and also had the pleasure of witnessing retired NHRA President Wally Parks receive a reproduction of his original roadster that he drove back in the '50s when he was the editor of our sister book Hot Rod.
Even if there's nothing special planned, there's always the opportunity to take in the museum's very special collection of historic race cars and street cars. If you want more information about the NHRA museum and Twilight Cruise, just hit on nhra.com and click on "museum" and you're there.
The NHRA museum holds a cruise on the first Wednesday of every month between April and December. We heard this year's long-distance award winner came from New Zealand.
