2004 Blue Grass Bash - Pro Racing Series

Tim Hendricks joined the ranks of multiple events winners with his second consecutive victory in Car Craft Magazine's Cheap Street class during round three of the PRO Racing Series from Bowling Green, Kentucky. The Sterling, Illinois-based 362-inch '95 F-body ran a brutal 9.72 at 138 mph (low e.t and top speed) in the final round over runner-up Andy Legg.

Hendricks had been slowly climbing the ladder in the Cheap Street class after missing a win in last year's PRO World Street Finals by less than 0.20 second to the 9-second Nova of Jeremy Taylor. With Taylor out, it was up to Hendricks to win the first round in 2004, but was edged out by Troy Pirez by a margin of only 0.03 and took runner-up.

Hendricks finally took a win in round two at Atco Raceway after a 9.77-at-139-mph qualifying run, then posted that number again to win the race. His only real competition was Andy Legg, who scored a runner-up effort in Cheap Street at the season-opener at Bradenton, but the Baytown, Texas, racer decided to compete in Mean Street at Atco, putting him decisively behind in the Cheap Street class points. With half the season over, Hendricks owns the points lead and the low e.t. record. He is the man to beat in 2004.

We've been watching the Cheap Street class develop from 10- and 11-second rides to wheelstanding 9-second racers. The final round of the PRO Racing Series is at the World Street Finals on October 8-10, 2004, at Memphis Motorsports Park in Tennessee, where a dozen classes will battle for the title.
