Car Craft’s next project car? We scoped out this 340 Duster and decided we didn’t have the patch panel skills to fill the rusted voids in the body.

Only in Michigan would you find a police-department-sponsored street rod.

Maybe “sponsored” is the wrong word—“seized” is more fitting. D.A.R.E. to keep hot rodders off drugs.

It isn’t mandatory that you cruise a cool car on the day of the Dream Cruise (the Bimmer convertible is evidence of that), but we think it should be.

World’s fastest Chevelle? We can’t say for certain, but we sure can’t think of any quicker than Doug Holmes’ EFI’d, twin-turbo’d, 604ci ’70. Very low 7-second e.t.’s are the norm for this machine—7.03 @ 200 to be exact.

The Woodward Dream Cruise is an event that every car crafter must attend at least once; preferably more than once; ideally, every year. On the third Saturday of August, Woodward Avenue is packed with cars along a 16-mile route through the northern suburbs of Detroit. Berkley, Birmingham, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Pontiac, and Royal Oak are the official host towns of the event, and all of them are stuffed to the gills when the million-plus car freaks show up for the cruise.

We’ve never made a religious pilgrimage, but this has got to be its gearhead equivalent. Our entire weekend was comprised of car stuff. Every minute. Car talk at breakfast time, bench racing during the day, yelling for burnouts in the evening, watching a little street racing at night. Get your street machine out of mothballs and make the trip to Detroit in 2002. And reserve a hotel room now, or you’ll have a long commute ahead of you next August. Check out dreamcruise.org if you still haven’t made up your mind.
