Long before Summit and Jegs, drag racing was an entirely do-it-yourself affair. Fran and Ralph Bannister built this car in 1954 and campaigned it extensively until 1958. One of the first purpose-built dragsters in the northeast, its 296ci 59-AB flathead mill pushed it to 131 mph. The GMC 4-71 blower manifold and drive—like the rest of the car—were homebuilt by the Bannister boys.
