Big tires, lots of chrome and unbelievable horsepower - that was the culture of the Street Machine Nationals (SMN) back in the day. Toby Brooks, an avid fan of the nationals and a huge muscle car lover, is bringing the car culture back to Du Quoin, IL. This year the SMN will return to Illinois June 28th-30th. The main goal: bring back as many classic builders from the 70s, 80s and 90s as possible. Researching and interviewing these pro builders, Brooks has put together a line-up of enthusiasts dedicated to returning in style. Builders such as Scott Sullivan, Merle Goldesberry, Mark Grimes, Rich Gebhardt, Rick Dobbertin, Wally Elder and many others will be in attendance. A total of 13 Legends of Pro Street will be in Du Quoin, IL. Radio Interview Listen to an interview from Street Rod & Custom Radio with Toby, Scott Sullivan, and Mark Grimes talking about the upcoming event HERE (you'll need iTunes to hear the podcast). Tubbed cars, tube frames and wicked decals made the Pro Street hobby what it is today - setting the tone in the late 70's and early 80s, this mix between pro stock and funny car set the pace for a whole new way of building cars. Turbo chargers, huge roots-type blowers and fat tires that met in the middle were all-new when the SMN was last held in Illinois. Kicked out 16 years ago, the city is holding its breath as it welcomes back the rowdy and wild car event of the 70's. Now, the participants have many years of partying behind them, but new generations - brought up seeing the old muscle cars in various publications - are ready to embrace this new era of hot-rodding. How to Get Involved Toby has the goal of registering 2,000 cars for the event. You can sign-up to participate HERE and you can see more details about the event on Toby's official site HERE. If you're a true car guy (and/or Car Craft fan), you better be at this event! By Nikolas Kolenich Enjoyed this Post?
