If you are or near 40 years old, this photo will bring you back. If you were born after 1995, this might have been your dad and his friends. The shot depicts a glorious auto shop circa the ’80s. We don’t have any specific information about when and where this photo was taken, but trust us, we were there. Note the excellent mullets on more than one greenhorn wrench slinger and the Rush concert shirt so fresh that it likely still smells of Mary Jane. Everyone had wrong-offset Cragar or Appliance Plating wheels to be cool because the mini-tub hadn’t taken off yet. Note the no-hood Pontiac on the far left—lacking a lid and showing off the anodized tin was another sign of the times—and the guy behind the Grand Prix, whose shorts are cut so short that the pockets are sticking out. The late ’80s also represented the absolute pinnacle in terms of copy sales for both Hot Rod and Car Craft magazines. We can thank these guys for getting us there.
